Which countries walked away most pleased with the proceedings of COP 15 in Copenhagen last December? Are they not the nations that have the most polluting energy mix?
Contrary to the great expectations at the COP 15 climate talks in December 2009, millions of hopes and aspiration of climate change experts and hundreds of affected countries were shattered. The decision finally boiled down to no concrete action plans, the thirst remained unquenched. The UNFCCC is gearing for the Bonn Conference to be held in mid April 2010 as a bridging module between COP15 and COP16 to be held in Cancun, November 2010 and to bring concrete action plans on board. However, the answer is not straight forward and unknown. The one line summary is that it is nice to think of a politically led solution but the reality is that it simply not possible among millions of diverse opinion. In the end it will be up to the local communities, the business groups and an individual to drive the change.
Then, as climate change experts, specialists and aficionado, should we wait for all these international conferences to conclude to start thinking of the next plan? Or should we initiate our own response individually or collectively within our region to communicate to our policy makers and take leadership to be in a demanding position so as to avoid any more disappointments like COP15?
This forum invites you to share your experiences, expertise, insights and generate discussion on the issues related to climate change in drafting a response to post Copenhagen situation.
Your valuable inputs would help us in reaching our audience “the voice of experts” a solution in combating the climate change issues faced by our region. |

i agree as a region we need to stand by our policies,
and develop an agenda that is beyond individual country interests.
while we need to make sure that all people have a right to live a good life we should not follow the same mistake that was done by the countries which promoted excessive consumerism. this method will not last long like it or not nature it self will take over the humankind if we do not change.
even today the climate action agenda is driven and blocked by countries/organisations who are concerend with short term economic gains.
we as a region can take the lead in showing what is a sustainable way of living, this sustainable way of living is not living in poverty but achieving good standard of living to most of the people in our countries. investing in correct technologies, promoting and facilitating knowlege sharing and free information flow is key to achieve this success. we need to start practising these in our region and then use our unity to force restrictive nations to change their actions |

The developing countries should not dilute their agenda of development beacuse all developed countries are enjoying good quality of life. Now it is their chance to reduce emissions.
